Prologue

In the beginning there was no God, and God did not exist, and God does not exist. There was only Man, and that was enough, and is enough.

And Man set forth upon the World, from what would eventually be known as Africa, and the World was Good. And there was Rain, and it was Good, and there were Animals, and they were Good. And there were Plants, and they were Good. And Man was happy.

The Rain would come, and with the Rain would come Floods, and the Floods would kill some of the Men, and the rest were sad. But then a Rainbow would come, and Man would be happy again, for it told them that the Rain and the Floods were done for at least a short time.

Soon Man ventured forth from Africa, and they went into the World, and found other Animals and other Plants and other Men, and it was Good. In some places in the World it was cold, and in others it was hot. In some places it was wet, and in others it was dry. Man would make each place in the World His own, and it was enough, for Man had a place in the World that seemed a gift, even if it was just there and He was just there.

Some Men found out that if they put a Seed of a Plant in the Ground, and then put Water from the Rain on the Seed that was in the Ground, then a new Plant, identical to the first, would grow. Other Men did not have the Patience, or Time, to wait for the Plant to grow, and would just go find that same plant elsewhere, or would kill an Animal, and take that Animal's skin to wear and meat to eat. And Man was happy finding Food or killing Food or growing Food.

Soon Man would find some Fruit that had been sitting on the Ground for a few days, and this Fruit, when eaten, would make Man dizzy and vomit and happy, and Man found it Good. These Men that found this Fruit that was on the Ground long after it had fallen from the Plant wanted more, so they put it in a Pot, and let it sit, and found that they could make their own joy, and Man found it Good. And then another Man put some of the juice of the Fruit in his mouth, and put the juice back in the Pot, and let it sit, and then drank the juice, and found it had become Wine, which was even better than the Fruit that had sat on the Ground or in the Pot, and Man found it better.

Another Man was in search of an Animal for Skin and Meat one day, and came upon a Plant He had never seen before, and Wondered if it was Good. This Man took some of the Fruit of the Plant, and put it in His mouth, and swallowed, and nothing happened, so the Man left the Plant to find and kill the Animal. And after a while the Man forgot what he was looking for, and felt happy like when He found Fruit that was upon the Ground, but the happiness was different, for the Man also saw things that Were Not There. And the Man was Afraid, and he Wondered what He was seeing, and returned to His Family, and looked for the Old Man of the Family to seek Advice.

The Old Man was very aged, and had seen Rain and Floods and Rainbows, and Wonders during his travels of the World, and was Wise. And when the Old Man's Son returned from his search for food and told of the strange things he had seen, the Old Man thought that the Son was being Foolish, but the Son had brought the Strange Plant to the Old Man to try Himself, and the Old Man did. And the Old Man saw strange things Himself, and couldn't explain the things or the Plant, so the Old Man said nothing. The Old Man thought, and Wondered, and thought, and after three days of thought the Old Man called His Son to Him, and told Him that the Truth had been revealed to Him in a Vision while the Old Man slept, and this was the Truth.

The Vision, He said, showed me the beginning of Man, and the beginning of Man was that this World was created for the Man, by another Man, called God, and that Man was Good, and God was Good, and God loved Man.

And the Old Man told His Son of His vision, and the Old Man died. And the Man, now the Old Man Himself, took his Family, and settled near a Family that foolishly grew Plants (for Plants take Time and Patience to grow) and told the other Family about the Plant that He had found and the Old Man's Vision, and the Truth about God, and left His Family to find the Plant, and share the Plant's wisdom with the two Families.

And this is the story of the Man Who First Found God, and Gods.
